What is a Fibershed?
A fibershed is a geographic region where natural fibers, such as wool, flax, hemp, cotton, and other natural fibers, are grown, processed, and manufactured into products locally, with an emphasis on sustainability, regenerative agriculture, and reducing the carbon footprint of textile production.
The term "fibershed" is inspired by the concept of "watershed" — a natural region where water flows into a specific body of water — but instead of water, a fibershed focuses on the local supply chain of fiber production.
The Fibershed ethos challenges the globalized, mass-produced textile industry and promotes a more conscious, community-based approach to fashion, textiles, and other natural fiber products.
